Ms. Burtnett completed her undergraduate education at Kansas State University in 2000 where she graduated cum laude and joined the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. Ms. Burtnett completed her legal education at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2003 where she graduated cum laude and was named to the Dean's List multiple times. While in law school, Ms. Burtnett handled the administration of both decedent and guardianship estates. Following law school, she assisted in the establishment of an adult guardianship pro se help desk for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Probate Division.
Ms. Burtnett has been licensed in all courts in the State of Illinois since 2003 and is a member of the Chicago Bar Association. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Ms. Burtnett litigates both civil and workers’ compensation cases throughout Illinois. She concentrates her civil practice on insurance defense matters, including construction negligence, wrongful death, employer’s liability, automobile negligence and premises liability. She also has experience litigating products liability and breach of contract actions.
Ms. Burtnett has tried workers compensation cases and assisted in the trial of civil jury trials, many of which involved damages in excess of $1 million. Ms. Burtnett has also handled appeals to the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.
